HB 29 Eases Transitions for Military Families & HB 75 Waives Post-secondary fees for Active Duty
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla – Thursday, Governor Scott ceremoniously signed HB 29 & HB 75 in Fort Walton Beach. BitWizards, a local business founded and managed by two military veterans, was host to an impressive gathering of community leaders and residents from across the county to the signing. These bills facilitate employment for military spouses and veterans, enhances several aspects of Veterans Florida, and promote access to higher education for active duty military.
“It was an honor to host Governor Rick Scott and to have the opportunity to demonstrate the high profile and significance of the military community in Northwest Florida,” said Representative Ponder. “It is an honor to advocate for our military who cannot always advocate for themselves in the political arena.”
Representative Renner was a prime-cosponsor of HB 29 with several other representatives from across the state listed as cosponsors. HB 29 was sponsored in the Senate by Senator Broxson & HB 75 was sponsored by Senator Gainer. Both bills passed unanimously and were recently signed into law by Governor Scott. Northwest Florida is home to several military installations including NAS Pensacola (incl. Corry Station & Saufley Field), NAS Whiting Field, Hurlburt Field, Eglin AFB, Duke Field, 7th Special Forces NAS Panama City, and Tyndall AFB. Both bills take effect on July 1 of this year.
“I’m proud to sign this legislation to further expand career… opportunities for our military members, veterans, and their families,” said Governor Rick Scott. “Florida is the most military and veteran friendly state in the nation, and we will continue working to support the brave members of our Armed Forces and their families who sacrifice so much for our nation and its freedom.”
